Max on Life- Max Lucado

What a cup of tea this book has been. This book is filled with questions and answers on many different topics. Some are serious, some are fun. Lucado answers the questions candidly and gives Biblical truths on each. There are so many different topics, and the book is broken down into 7 headings: Hope, Hurt, Help, Him/Her, Home, Haves/Have Nots, Hereafter.

The amazing thing to me is that Lucado never fails to deliver and always offer true Biblical answers and gives many verses for reference. There is an appendix at the end of the book and it is broken down into various topics so that you can easily find the answers by topics. Also featured is The Lucado Reader’s Guide, which gives various highlighted topics and gives the core scripture to read to provide insight to the topic.

I enjoyed the journey of reading this book, and quite honestly, every Lucado book has been an adventure and a true treasure to read and enjoy. I would recommend this as a staple in any Christian’s book collection as it can be a quick point of reference for one of the world’s most popular and most God-driven individuals of our time. You will not be disappointed with this one.

OUT LIVE YOUR LIFE – MAX LUCADO

What another wonderfully beautifully written book by Lucado. This takes you on a journey again, and it gives you fuel to love and live a life that truly makes a difference in the lives of others and all while serving God.

The chapters are broken down to a few pages each. Each chapter begins with a strong Bible Verse. For example Chapter 8, entitled “Persecution: Prepare for it, Resist it,” begins with quoting Acts 4: 1: The Priest, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them. Then the chapter takes you in to examples, real life and often Biblically. At the end of the chapter there is another verse and a prayer. Each chapter has the same format and has great, relatable examples.

One of the things that I love the most about the book is the discussion questions at the end of the book. This is a highlight for me, as the leader of a book club. This is an ideal book for any book club. This is a book that challenges you and makes you think. I love the use of scripture and Lucado writes well and never has disappointed me yet. I highly recommend this one, you will not be disappointed!

Cast of Characters Book Review

Max Lucado has really set the stage for a God experience with his book Cast of Characters. The book goes through several well-known, and some not so well known characters in the greatest book of all-time, the Bible. I absolutely love Lucado’s use of making the Biblical characters relatable, even bringing some of them in to our time.

One of my favorite passages throughout the book is the chapter entitled, “The Privilege of Paupers”. This passage gives the example of a being a bachelor at potlucks. Then it relates the experience to a Biblical character named Mephibosheth. I love how the book mentioned in this chapter how “fear not” is listed in EVERY book of the Bible.

This book takes you on an amazing journey and I would encourage any Biblical scholar or anyone who has a hard time relating the Bible to our time to pick this book up and try it out for yourself. There are plenty of great characters to get a spin on and learn more about. There are scripture examples and so much more. I do not think you will be disappointed, and you may learn a thing or two about yourself and God. This book by Lucado is truly a page turner.

Book Review: Walk Like You Have Somewhere to Go

Lucille O’Neal with Allison Samuels

This book journeys through the shoes of a remarkable woman who has been through a great deal in her lifetime. The life of Lucille O’Neal hasn’t been easy, but it has been rewarding. This book reiterates, if you remain in faith and seek God, He can surely bring you through as he has done in the life of Lucille.

O’Neal describes the life she had growing up and the life she now lives as the mother of one of the biggest names in NBA, Shaquille O’Neal. It is very clear, though Shaquille is the oldest child, her other children as just as loved and appreciated.

O’Neal reminds the reader continuously that God will never leaves us. We may drift away but God is waiting with open arms for us. O’Neal continuously thanks her mother for making sure her connection to God was always in tact, no matter what life brought her.

O’Neal makes it very clear that it is by God alone that she is where she is today. She has traveled a long way, and I believe her journey has brought her to this place, with this book, to help and encourage others along their faith walk. It certainly has done that with me.

Matthew 5:16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 Let us not do good works to be seen or gain glory from men but so that people can see our light and in turn be drawn to it so that we can show them CHRIST. Is your light on? Hit the switch! If not, how else will people know who you are or WHOSE you are!

I am excited about all that God is going to do in my life and in the lives of others during 2010. What a blessing to be a part of a new decade. This is a new season, a new day, a fresh anointing! Praise God in 2010. Thank Him for all He has brought you through and for what he is going to bring you to!

Another Day the Lord has made

I woke up this morning with my right mind. That is enough reason to praise His name. I am able to move, breathe, and during these difficult times I still have food to eat. All of my essential needs are being met, each and every day that I live. I praise God for He is worthy to be praised. There are those that now sleep, without food to eat, and who the devil has beat, before they had a chance to turn. I know God and I know He is the One who is transforming my life. I thank God for Jesus, who came to set me FREE!

Each morning, I love to go to bible.com to see the daily verse. This morning it spoke so clearly to me, almost as if they knew exactly where I was at and what I needed to hear:

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6

In my prayer time alone with God I have been praying that I have a hunger and a thirst after Him and of the things of Him, and the things that please Him. God is able to give us the desires of our hearts, and as we begin to truly desire Him and seek after Him, many of the other things we want will come into place. I believe the more and more we seek after Him, his ways, and the things He wants us to do, the things in which we desire to do that are not pleasing to Him will fall away more and more, and it will become easier to resist the devil and his schemes. Likewise, we will desire more and more to do what God would have us do.

God will use those who will be used, I encourage people everywhere to seek God continually. To allow your heart to be penetrated by His power, and begin to watch Him work in your behalf.

Life is too short to live life like there is no eternity waiting for us, if you have not given thought to where you will spend eternity, I encourage you to do so. Eternity is a long time to be wrong about that which is right.
